Third year undergraduate project

Third year undergraduate project

My third year undergraduate project was focused on designing and manufacturing a flax-fibre composite nosecone assembly for our 2024 FSUK challenger, Sally. I learned to use CFD in ANSYS Fluent and performed a full mesh sensitivity study, before assessing the status quo nosecone and designing an improved sucessor.

The final result was a novel nosecone that reduced the drag coefficient by 4.95% and reduced lift by 17.4%. Thanks go to Dr Tom Peach for his supervision and for Léa in my design/build team for her manufacturing support.
