Third year - Front suspension braceplate

Front suspension braceplate

Another third year formula student design task I completed was the design and manufacture of a front suspension braceplate. The braceplate would be where the dampers of the front suspension would mount to the chassis. This meant that, as well as being lightweight, the part had to have structural integrity too. The largest load case I calculated was during a 5G single-wheel bump event, in which an asymmetrical load of 10kN  was simulated on the braceplate. The plate sucessfully passed FEA validation and was signed off for manufacture.

This braceplate was manufactured from aluminium 2014 using a 3 axis CNC machine. This was sucessfully fitted to the car and passed scrunineering at FSUK 2024.
