Third year - Adjustable drivetrain

Adjustable drivetrain

Adjustable drivetrain

An early third year design task was to design a new pair of driveshafts and adjustable differential brackets. Our 2022 car had limited chain tensioning adjustability in X, meaning that our chain would often slacken off during runs or races. This new design incorporates 0.5mm thick shims into the brackets to allow sensitive X adjustability. The driveshafts were also designed as part of this package, and I leaned all about spline manufacturing and theory. The differential was a standard Drexler FSAE differential.

Although, due to external circumstances and a chassis change, this design was never manufactured but was designed up to completion and will still work (in theory!).
