My first formula student design task was to design and manufacture the chainguard for the 2022 car. I started looking at the position of the powertrain in CAD and created a flat pattern from there. I was fortunate enough to see the chainguard be welded in the workshop too.

This chainguard was constructed using a water-jet cutter to cut the 2mm mild steel sheet, as well as welding on the final touches. A sheet metal bending workbench was used to make the bent tabs.
